Festivids Recs #1
Almost twohundred (!!!) vids to go through, so this rec list is far from being complete. Here's what I really loved so far.

First, the two gift vids that I received and which are both just wonderful. I feel so very lucky to have received two such beautiful vids. Thank you, vidder persons!

Head Full Of Doubt/Road Full of Promise (Stand By Me)
I watched this and then I teared up a little and I actually couldn't watch it again right away because it gave me all the feelings and I had to recover a little first. It's beautiful. Oh film, I love you. So much ♥

Walking On Sunshine (Miranda)
This on the other hand made me grin like an idiot. So delightful! I may have danced along sitting in my chair as well (It's totally possible.) SUCH FUN!!!

Other recs:

a message for you (Big Fish)
Fabulous use of the Pretteh that is Tim Burton's movies. I only watched the film once but now I feel I should watch it again.

Little Lie (Blackpool)
Fantastic editing, great song choice.

Love Will Win (E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial)
Possibly my favourite so far. It's just so...beautiful. Flawless editing and great song choice and seriously, it made me smile and cry, sometimes at the same time.

Hero (The Hour)
Just captures the tone of the show perfectly.

My Aviator (The Great Mouse Detective)
Most underrated Disney film of all time.

You Make Me Feel So Young (Mary Poppins)
Just utterly delightful. Seriously.

Ooh La La! (Moulin Rouge)
I figured it'd be impossible to vid this film and capture both the emotion as well as the powerful visual style of this film, but somehow this video does it. Great song choice.

To be continued...

A Few Good Fanvid Recs
I've submitted three vids for [livejournal.com profile] festivids so far and a fourth is almost done. \0/ Golive is around the 20th--January 21st, I think--so I thought I'd compile a wee list of fanvids that I've enjoyed in the past few months, before fandom gets flooded with more fantastic vids.

A Girl A Boy And A Graveyard by [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 (Covert Affairs // Spoilers through season 1)
Auggie/Annie and the cutest thing I'd seen in a while. I also love the song. I actually went ahead and bought the entire album.

Gravity by [livejournal.com profile] lsw700 (Downton Abbey // Spoilers through all seasons and the Christmas special)
Mary/Matthew. I loved the use of voiceovers. This show needs more vids.

I Want It All by [livejournal.com profile] bananainpyjamas (Friday Night Lights // spoilers for seasons 1-4)
Smash character study. Smash was never my favourite character on the show and rap isn't my favourite kind of music, but this mash-up with Queen rocks and the vid is fantastic. The choice of song is flawless, believe me.

Identical Snowflakes by [livejournal.com profile] icepixie (Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers movies)
Astaire and Gingers dancing. I love how this vid celebrates these classic movies--they get way too little love these days.

Glósóli by [livejournal.com profile] such_heights (Doctor Who // Spoilers for season 4-6)
A vid about the characters and symbolism on the show. And it's just so very pretty. It gives me aaaall the feelings. If I could marry this vid I probably would.

Okay, got that rec list out of my system. Bring it on, [livejournal.com profile] festivids.

FYI
If Miranda Hart and Catherine Tate were ever on a show together I'd quite possibly-nay, probably--die of laughter. Seriously, just imagine both of them going, "Innit thouuuuugh?!"

And now that I've said that I really, really, really, really, really want Catherine Tate to be on Miranda. (The show. Not actually Miranda. You know? Good.)

On a Scale of 1 to 10 ...
...how bad is it that I'm actually excited about this show now? I only watched the trailer because I read that the lovely Summer Glau was going to be in it and now I'm in a state of "EEE" and "SQUEE" and "I DON'T CARE IF THIS SUCKS, EEEE SUPER HEROES."

Geekdom At Its Best
I'm not entirely sure if this is really one guy doing a duet with himself or if it's not really twins, but still--this is purely genius. A medley of 22 tv themes, and all of them coming with a stellar performance. AWESOME. (And nicked from [livejournal.com profile] elsmoka)

"Gus, don't be a paranoid schizophrenic."
Colour me impressed by the final sequence of Psych 4x16. Thought it was very moving. I love when Psych aims for a slightly more serious and quieter tone because when it does, it does so beautifully. I just wish they'd do it more often. That's why season three is my favourite one by far.

And because that scene actually made me go "Awwwwwww" ...

The White Collar finale was quite something, eh? I think what I love most about that show is that even when Neal aims to go behind Peter's back he never really does because Peter's one step ahead of him.

And I enjoyed this week's Criminal Minds a lot, particularly the way the episode started off with a narrative and the villain's perspective rather than a quote. Am also always happy about references to Johnny Cash when I can get them :D

HBO greenlights "Game of Thrones"
Given how excited I am about this show you wouldn't believe I actually put the first book down after 30 pages.

HBO greenlights 'Game of Thrones' to series (including first promotional picture).

Memories of my Childhood
Sometimes, I just want to hug youtube tight and never let it go again...

Actually, is there anybody on my flist who used to watch the dubbed German version as well when they were kids? Because - I distinctively remember Joey calling "Fury!" during the intro and then the horse coming galloping down the slope, but I'm about 90% sure that we did not have that cheesy voice-over. Or maybe they just left it out in the later episodes?

That being said, I just had goosebumps watching that intro again after 20 years. So weird how much I remember the opening scenes given I was 5 or 6 at the time I watched it. I'd always wished they'd put it on a rerun over here...yay youtube. *puts dvds on her wishlist*

Glee!
I have no idea how they're going to turn this into a series, but it looks awesome.

Also, I love it when songs are arranged completely different from what they usually are. So have Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" done in musical-style. I'm excited to see whether or not the show can keep up the quality of the perfomances.

"Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?"
[livejournal.com profile] ewanspotter asked for another Friends-related post. As you might (or probably will not) know, I'm currently watching all ten seasons of Friends for the first time. She wanted me to post about how I like the show. So here it is. By request.

I think that when the show originally aired, I was just too young to get it and connect to the characters, so I never liked it much. Watching it now? I adore it.

Tell Me...
...I'm not mad because I accidentally zapped into CSI:NY, and on realising it was CSI:NY continued to watch it even though I've never seen a single episode just because I was hoping to catch a glimpse at A.J. Buckley?

And when I did, I may have squeed because...lab coat. Mmmh.

Meta, Of A Sort, About Vampires In Literature & On Screen
Going through the book store today something occurred to me. And it concerns vampires. So here's a few thoughts.

There seems to be a silent understanding that in both television, film and literature there will be a male vampire and a woman or girl attracted to him (or if she's not attracted to him, she teams up with him at least). Everywhere you look there are stories based on that principle--there are the Blood Books by Tanya Huff and the tv show Blood Ties which is based on the books, there's Twilight by Stephanie Meyer, don't forget tv shows like Moonlight and Angel and even if you go a hundred years back, you will find the same scheme in Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I'm not saying all these stories are the same, because they are not, but I do think it's weird the man always gets to be the vampire, and the woman to be the mortal.

It Goes On From Here )

Is It Just Me? Anyone?
I have a confession to make. It's kind of embarrassing but...every time I watch that scee, every time I see this screencap...

Photobucket

...my mind automatically switches to the intro of Highway To Heaven. Every frickin' time. This is evidential proof that when I was a kid in the 80's, I spent too much time watching television (but oh, did I love that show. Tell me you did, too).

And just so you see what I'm talking about:

(On second thought, that intro is like the official version of how John Winchester met Bobby Singer...I mean. Seriously)

Oh Noes! Another TV Meme!
Snagged from Anna :-)

Rules:
- Bold all of the following TV shows of which you've seen 3 or more episodes.
- Italicize a show if you're positive you've seen every episode.
- Asterisk if you have at least one full season on tape or DVD
- If you want, add up to 3 additional shows (keep the list in alphabetical order).

This Could Get Embarrassing :-) )

Jeffrey Dean Morgan On Angel Picspam
In celebration of having ordered Jam and [livejournal.com profile] valkrys providing me with Weeds, I give you a small Angel picspam of Jeff's episode, Provider. His appearance is short, and his hair makes me cringe a bit, but hey - it's still Jeff, and he's still adorable like a most adorable thing.
