Festivids Recs #1
Almost twohundred (!!!) vids to go through, so this rec list is far from being complete. Here's what I really loved so far.

First, the two gift vids that I received and which are both just wonderful. I feel so very lucky to have received two such beautiful vids. Thank you, vidder persons!

Head Full Of Doubt/Road Full of Promise (Stand By Me)
I watched this and then I teared up a little and I actually couldn't watch it again right away because it gave me all the feelings and I had to recover a little first. It's beautiful. Oh film, I love you. So much ♥

Walking On Sunshine (Miranda)
This on the other hand made me grin like an idiot. So delightful! I may have danced along sitting in my chair as well (It's totally possible.) SUCH FUN!!!

Other recs:

a message for you (Big Fish)
Fabulous use of the Pretteh that is Tim Burton's movies. I only watched the film once but now I feel I should watch it again.

Little Lie (Blackpool)
Fantastic editing, great song choice.

Love Will Win (E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial)
Possibly my favourite so far. It's just so...beautiful. Flawless editing and great song choice and seriously, it made me smile and cry, sometimes at the same time.

Hero (The Hour)
Just captures the tone of the show perfectly.

My Aviator (The Great Mouse Detective)
Most underrated Disney film of all time.

You Make Me Feel So Young (Mary Poppins)
Just utterly delightful. Seriously.

Ooh La La! (Moulin Rouge)
I figured it'd be impossible to vid this film and capture both the emotion as well as the powerful visual style of this film, but somehow this video does it. Great song choice.

To be continued...

A Sherlock Observation
You know what I really, really liked about Sherlock 2x03? The fact that Lestrade was more or less referred to as King Arthur. Which made me go all kinds of YAY and WHEE.

Let me elaborate (as if I wouldn't). In Which I Ramble )

In conclusion: need Lestrade icon. Preferrably one with a crown saying "KING" or something :-p

In less related news: [community profile] festivids Golive today! OMG! Excited and nervous doesn't even begin to cover it.

A Few Good Fanvid Recs
I've submitted three vids for [ profile] festivids so far and a fourth is almost done. \0/ Golive is around the 20th--January 21st, I think--so I thought I'd compile a wee list of fanvids that I've enjoyed in the past few months, before fandom gets flooded with more fantastic vids.

A Girl A Boy And A Graveyard by [ profile] obsessive24 (Covert Affairs // Spoilers through season 1)
Auggie/Annie and the cutest thing I'd seen in a while. I also love the song. I actually went ahead and bought the entire album.

Gravity by [ profile] lsw700 (Downton Abbey // Spoilers through all seasons and the Christmas special)
Mary/Matthew. I loved the use of voiceovers. This show needs more vids.

I Want It All by [ profile] bananainpyjamas (Friday Night Lights // spoilers for seasons 1-4)
Smash character study. Smash was never my favourite character on the show and rap isn't my favourite kind of music, but this mash-up with Queen rocks and the vid is fantastic. The choice of song is flawless, believe me.

Identical Snowflakes by [ profile] icepixie (Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers movies)
Astaire and Gingers dancing. I love how this vid celebrates these classic movies--they get way too little love these days.

Glósóli by [ profile] such_heights (Doctor Who // Spoilers for season 4-6)
A vid about the characters and symbolism on the show. And it's just so very pretty. It gives me aaaall the feelings. If I could marry this vid I probably would.

Okay, got that rec list out of my system. Bring it on, [ profile] festivids.

Just cause. It's just one of those days.

I love how he still looks the same. He just grew taller and gained a little weight. In fact, even after all these years I still yell, "Mikey! Mikey!" at the screen when I watch the LOTR movies.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. (No, really)
This was posted yesterday. Yesterday. Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levit performing a song together. My life, it is complete at last.

YESTERDAY. And OMG, I love Zooey and her music anyway but I had no idea Joseph Gordon-Levitt had such a lovely voice (and mad guitar skills)!!! I wish they'd record something. Their voices go so well together. OMG. I'm in love.

Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus.

We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun:

Dear Editor—

I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you see it in The Sun, it’s so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?

Virginia O’Hanlon

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

Happy Holidays!
Thank you to every one who wrote me Christmas cards--it is all very appreciated and put lots of smiles on my face. As every year, with my job being particularly stressful around this time of the year, I failed to send out cards again and I'm very sorry for that. But I love you all, and I hope you have a very lovely Christmas.

Fanvid: Scrooge (North & South)
Okay. So back in the olden days when this was all fields (so, half a year ago) and I decided to try the vidding thing again my first ever attempt which only a handful of people ever got to see was a North & South vid set to "Scrooge" from the Muppet Christmas Carol. The vid had a lot of random fade-outs and many scenes that were too long and stuff, but I decided that vidding was fun and to stick with it when time allowed.

Now Christmas is only a few days away, so I decided to fix the vid and post it for everyone on my flist who either loves period drama, Richard Armitage or The Muppet Christmas Carol :) (Ideally, all three), as I didn't have time to prepare anything else but really wanted to "give" something, and this vid is the only Christmassy thing I have to offer right now. It's also just a tiny fun vid for the interested and hence I won't crosspost it (except to the vidding forum, possibly). (And please don't feel bad if you're not interested in this, trust me, you're definitely in the majority. Sorry :-))
