"Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?"
[livejournal.com profile] ewanspotter asked for another Friends-related post. As you might (or probably will not) know, I'm currently watching all ten seasons of Friends for the first time. She wanted me to post about how I like the show. So here it is. By request.

I think that when the show originally aired, I was just too young to get it and connect to the characters, so I never liked it much. Watching it now? I adore it.

I like the continuity of the show. I like that they move around and most importantly, move on, and that it's a sitcom where things change for a while or forever. I love that when Joey and Chandler decide to keep a chicken, they actually do for some seasons (I'm almost done with season six now and the duck and chicken are still there). I love how the show is constantly referring back to earlier seasons without giving an explanation (the Gellar way of giving the finger, for example).

I love how loveable all the characters are (okay, I'll NEVER really warm up to Ross. But I've seen far more annoying characters on television). And I love that they have ticks and odd habbits that they actually keep instead of magically losing them. It just makes them incredibly human.

I love how the show is not taking itself too seriously, and I love how witty and clever it is. Even when the plot of the episode bores me, it's always fun to watch these characters.

By the way, my brother claims that if I was one of the characters, I'd be Monica. I guess I have to agree ;-)

Oh, and PLEASE don't spoiler me for future seasons. Believe it or not, but I managed to survive the past ten years and more without getting majorly spoiled for the show.

Amen to everything you've said.^^

Friends wasn't very successful the first time it aired in Germany, because SAT.1 aired it in the wrong order (the first few seasons and episodes all mixed up) and at bad and changing time slots (mostly nights). It was around the eigth season in America when Pro7 finally took over and brought them all weekdays at 18:00 in the right order. The dubbing also got better in the seasons when Pro7 was in charge (even though it still sucked compared to the original).

Too bad that you don't like Ross. Friends is the one show where I love everyone (even in Firefly, for example, I don't like Book), but if I had to choose the one character I love least of all, it would be Ross, too. Though he has these hiliariously funny moments in S5, when he loses his job because of the turkey sandwich or finds out about Chandler & Monica, and later in S8.^^

Hehe, and me & [livejournal.com profile] telpi always played the "who of the Friends would you be"-game. I think am most likely Rachel; though I also have traits from Monica, Phoebe, Ross & Chandler.^^

Awww, "Friends" ist toll! :-) Nach "Six Feet Under" meine Lieblingsserie. Habe auch alle 10 Staffeln gesehen und danach die zwei Staffeln "Joey". Ich mag Ross allerdings total, am wenigsten mag ich Monica. ;-)

Heee. Phoebe. (re your subject line)

I always tried to decide which of the characters I could do without. And. I never came to a solution. There just need to be all of them. All six. And all of them make this show so amazing.

I saw every single episode ('cause I started somewhere in the middle but I'm already possessing the first seven seasons. The rest is soon to come) and I can watch it again and again. One of my friend and I we used to talk with friends-quotes for weeks. Good ol' times. :D
