Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. (No, really)
This was posted yesterday. Yesterday. Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levit performing a song together. My life, it is complete at last.

YESTERDAY. And OMG, I love Zooey and her music anyway but I had no idea Joseph Gordon-Levitt had such a lovely voice (and mad guitar skills)!!! I wish they'd record something. Their voices go so well together. OMG. I'm in love.

(And thanks for The Man Of the Hour, namely my brother, who found this and sent me the link instantly :D )

Awesomecakes.
(Thank you [livejournal.com profile] roadrunner1896 for linking me to this :p Did you see? There's a bit of Russel Tovey in it!)

This is win on more levels than I can currently count :-) Doctor Who really has the most adorable cast and crew. Bless them.

My brother still needs to get caught up with season three and four, so after seeing this video I actually watched 3x11 with him yesterday, even though season three is my least favourite by far (except for the final episodes which have the genius hat is John Simm).

I even have a Ten & Donna icon still. W00t.

The Steps of St. Paul's - Talis Kimberley
When I read these lyrics for the first time a few days ago, I went, "Whoa." Since then Talis has made a recording of the song and it has been put on YT and I do hope that somehow, it will spread. I normally don't voice my opinion on politics as it always feels that though I do try to keep up I know too little to allow myself an "open" opinion, but this song really struck a chord with me..

This song is directed to England which is why I've been hesitant to share these lyrics, brilliant as they may be, because as much as I love Britain, I'm not a Brit. Having listened to the song quite a few times now, though, I feel like in this case "England" could easily be substituted with a Western country of your choice and that really, this song concerns us all.

Lyrics & Free Download. I also hear that the "Dah-dit-dit" bit is morse code for "BBC".

Random Post.
Alan Menken has created quite a few wonderful tunes for Disney in his career, but I think this piece from Tangled is one of my absolute favourites. Particularly the bit that starts around min 1:05. It just makes me want to get up and dance, which I guess is the point, so well done, Sir :-)

Return to Downton Abbey
Downton Abbey season two trailer.

The show returns in less than two weeks! I'm so looking forward to it; I would probably watch this for the cast alone. Luckily, it's a really excellent show, too :D

The song used in this is Scala's lovely cover of With Or Without You, by the way. I'm usually not a big fan of covers, but Scala's rather quiet and subtle choir arrangements are just lovely. It's such an amazing choice of music for the trailer, too.

"It's just the way we feel"
For some reason, I thought "Fascination" was at least twenty years old. Turns out it's actually from 2008. Oops. I just saw the video for the first time; it's so sweet and colourful.

Anyways. I love this song. It always makes me want to get up and dance. If you're not tapping your feet by the time the chorus sets in, there's possibly something wrong with you.

Speaking of dancing, [livejournal.com profile] charmax used this song for her brilliant Billy Elliot fanvid. It's actually where I first heard it.

"There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something."
Okay.

Obviously Peter Jackson's video and the prospect of seeing Middle-earth again has me way more excited than I could ever have anticipated. I hereby apologise for all future squeeing, picspams, video posts and whathaveyou. Apparently it's not just another movie being made to me.

With that out of the way...

One week to Christmas
[livejournal.com profile] mareen just posted this, and it is too lovely not to share.

The tune that the girl is playing is the famous soundtrack of Three Nuts for Cinderella, a Czech/East-German film adaption of Grimm's Aschenputtel (Cinderella) traditionally shown over here at Christmas. Every year.

Music.
If you like one or more of the following, I think this video may put a smile on your face:

  • the movie 500 Days of Summer
  • old music/dance films from the 50's and 60's
  • musical numbers
  • Joseph Gordon-Lewitt
  • Zoeey Deschanel

By the way, the song is sung by Zooey Deschanel. I bought their album the other day and I find I really do like her voice, even though it's unusual. And the album is love, I adore that vintage stuff.

Bonus: She & Him - In The Sun )

Anyways, am I the only who the guy reminds of Tony Stark? Anyone? Bueller?

Guitar Update #453 (Zombie Apocalypse Edition)
I forgot to post about the new song I'm learning! It's "Junge" by die Ärzte and the intro is about killing me. Video (the censored version) posted below. Just had a glimpse at the uncensored one and...ugh, pretty gruesome. As much as I love the song I couldn't stomach that. Guess I'm not cut out for the zombie apocalypse.

    Today's "Awesome Music Post"
Meet the woman whose accent (and music) Lena quite obviously tries to copy :-) I still like "Satellite" and I suppose there are far worse role models she could have, so I don't mind. I still prefer the original by far, though. Here's my current feelgood song.

Someone recc'd this band in the forum that my guitar coach runs and I think it may possibly the coolest, most creative and quirky thing I've heard in a while. Awesome.

Sent out brochures to Québec today, which reminded me of that awesome song/video [livejournal.com profile] pixel_0 linked me to a while ago. Canadian please :-)

    "The Night Is Young..."
Bad day at work, exhausted, air humid, off to guitar lesson to practise a song whose strumming pattern I just don't get...but this always manages to put a smile on my face :D It just never gets old. Behold the brilliance of Cary Elwes.

    Geekdom At Its Best
I'm not entirely sure if this is really one guy doing a duet with himself or if it's not really twins, but still--this is purely genius. A medley of 22 tv themes, and all of them coming with a stellar performance. AWESOME. (And nicked from [livejournal.com profile] elsmoka)

Puts a smile on my face and makes me tap my feet along EVERY time I listen to it. So I figured I'd share the good vibes :D

    Mando Diao - Mean Street

I absolutely dig the "vintage" sound of the song. AWESOME. (By the way, the entire album Give Me Fire is pretty awesome.)

    Glückauf, Ruhrgebiet
Every big event, like the RUHR.2010 (Capital of Culture) one, seems to have a proper, clean official hymn--and the heartfelt song of an underdog which quickly turns into the unofficial anthem. I think this is going to be ours.

This song pretty much sums up how I feel about my beloved home. It's such a lovely tune and video too.

    OMG.
You know in the pilot of Glee when Kurt auditions and it's sort of funny that he's got this really high-pitched, girly voice? I always wondered if they'd ever let him sing a solo and at some point I figured that maybe they wouldn't because let's face it, his voice did sound a bit odd but then...I just listened to "Defying Gravity" performed by Chris and Lea, and wow--all I can say is wow. It sounds amazing. I'm blown away. This is DEFINITELY my favourite duet on the show so far. They voices harmonise SO well.

    Way to Go, Beyoncé.
I got to say Beyoncé, this is nine kinds of classy. I may not always like your music, but that is class right there. Wow.

(At the VMAs last night, Taylor Swift won Best Female Video. During her acceptance speech Kanye West stormed the stage and ruined Taylor's moment by being an ass and saying that Beyoncé should've won. Later that night Beyoncé actually won Video of the Year, and this is what she did.

    Everything I Do...
Funny how sometimes you watch something on the telly and then a song pops up that you had completely (or mostly) forgotten about...

Still one of the best ballads ever. Timeless.

On that note - I haven't listened to his albums in a long time. I used to go to his concerts whenever he was playing nearby.

Also, everytime I see that video I get the urge to watch Prince of Thieves again, until I remember how gruesome that film is in parts... :-(
