SIGNAL BOOST: SAY YES TO GAY YA
Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] darkspirited1 at SIGNAL BOOST: SAY YES TO GAY YA
This comes from an article by [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija entitled, Say Yes to Gay YA.
(click the link for the full article)

Our novel Stranger has five viewpoint characters; one, Yuki Nakamura, is
gay and has a boyfriend. Yuki's romance, like the heterosexual ones in
the novel, involves nothing more explicit than kissing.

An agent from a major agency, one which represents a bestselling YA novel in the same genre as ours, called us.

The agent offered to sign us on the condition that we make the gay
character straight, or else remove his viewpoint and all references to
his sexual orientation.

This isn't about that specific agent; we'd gotten other rewrite requests before this one. Previous agents had also offered to take a second look if we did rewrites… including cutting the viewpoint of Yuki, the gay character.

I read about this the other day and I got so angry. So very angry.

Article on Fanfiction. Not a bad one, either. Comes with bonus translation.
The website of Sueddeutsche, one of Germany's most widely-read and one of the more respectable newspapers, features an article on Harry Potter fanfiction today. Unlike many other articles though it doesn't do the typical belittling of fans writing about their heroes, and actually raises quite a few interesting points, such as these.

Attempt at translation )

I, for one, don't mind having myself put next to the story-tellers from Days of Yore. :-) Then again, particularly that past bit stroke a chord with me. I think the author is on to something there. I'm glad she treats the issue of fanfiction more respectfully than some and actually offers a serious attempt of decoding it.

Spreading the word: Cat needs a home in Ontario, Canada
(Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] embroiderama at Cat needs a home in Ontario, Canada
Reposting for a friend:)

[livejournal.com profile] ghosts has taken in a rescue cat, but she can't keep her. So she's in dire need of someone to adopt him, because she's been told that all the animal shelter will do is take him down; they're out of room.

If you live in Canada, anywhere near Ontario, please concider giving this cat a new home. More info and contact HERE. And if you don't, it would be a great help if you'd spread the word and link to her entry yourself, maybe one of your friends can take him, knows someone who can... Let's find Sam a home!

EDIT: Looks like we found him a home. :D

Awwww.
My brother just sent me the link and it made me smile a lot. Halfway through the national anthem, this little girl has a blackout and can't remember the lyrics--luckily, she's got a really great audience.

(Link to the video on YT )

There's another video of this where you can actually hear someone hushing the chuckling woman. Awesome.

Kristin Chenoweth Attacks Newsweek Article on Openly Gay Actors

I’d normally keep silent on such matters and write such small-minded viewpoints off as perhaps a blip in common sense. But the offense I take to this article, and your decision to publish it, is not really even related to my profession or my work with Hayes or Jonathan Groff (also singled out in the article as too ‘queeny’ to play ‘straight.’) This article offends me because I am a human being, a woman and a Christian.

Twitter!
Why yes, I caved in. Mostly because I want to follow Misha's twitter (which is just absurd enough I think it's actually him) and because [livejournal.com profile] ongiara made a post about me. Pffth. So, my profile is here: https://twitter.com/misslegoline (Can you believe "Legoline" was already taken?)

So, who else is out there?

Shameless Dreamwidth Begging
So I've got an Open ID account over at Dreamwidth (confirmed email address and everything)and I was hoping that maybe one day I'd wake up to find they'd given me an invite but alas...

And it seems like all the cool kids are already all set and playing in their new sand box, so I'm going to do what I don't like to do--I'm going to beg shamelessly.

So.

If you have a spare invite for Dreamwidth, this girl here with the big puppy eyes and the wibbling lip would muchly appreciate it. And possibly love you forever. Really. Really. *points to icon*
