The website of Sueddeutsche, one of Germany's most widely-read and one of the more respectable newspapers, features an article on Harry Potter fanfiction today. Unlike many other articles though it doesn't do the typical belittling of fans writing about their heroes, and actually raises quite a few interesting points, such as these.

I, for one, don't mind having myself put next to the story-tellers from Days of Yore. :-) Then again, particularly that past bit stroke a chord with me. I think the author is on to something there. I'm glad she treats the issue of fanfiction more respectfully than some and actually offers a serious attempt of decoding it.

Summary. This is an alternate take on season 4:

Dean's gone to Hell, and Hell's come to Earth. After the apocalypse, Sam is the leader of some of the last remaining people who are continually caught in a struggle against the demons that walk amongst them. Castiel, burdened by a terrible secret, has gone into hiding among the humans. One day, four years after his deal was up, a battered Dean returns from Hell at the same time that suspicions begin that there is a mole in the camp. While Sam and Dean are too broken to find the courage to believe in the reality of what has happened, rumors of treason spread quickly across the camp. With the tension nearing a breaking point, Sam is suddenly faced with the possibility that his brother, who he once thought was gone to him forever, has returned and is bringing Hell with him.

Gone With the Wind was on all afternoon (literally all afternoon, given how long it is). I hadn't seen it in ages but damn...I love this movie. Meet my weak spot for Southern Belles, Southern gentlemen, cotton plantations, Civil War--and I'm not even an American. Hee. A re-reading of Mark Twain should be in order as well as finally reading Margaret Mitchell's novel. And reading pixel_0's wonderful fic that she wrote for my birthday again.

Just after Dean's year is up and Dean is sent to Hell, the apocalypse wrecks the land, and only a few people survive. Sam unwillingly becomes their leader, turning into someone he never wanted to be. The story opens four years later, when Dean suddenly finds himself waking up on a dark and deserted road. He is found by Michael and Bobby, who take Dean to the refugee camp where the last of mankind gathers around Sam.

Sam refuses to believe that his brother has returned, and suspects it to be a trick of Lilith. After having been faced with this new reality and the man Sam has turned into Dean on the other hand, broken and confused, believes that he is still in Hell. Just as the brothers are getting closer again, things take a bad turn. There is a mole in camp, and signs point towards Dean. The situation escalates, leaving Sam not knowing whom and what to believe anymore.

Features guest appearances by a certain angel who has gone into hiding among the humans, and fears his true identity might be exposed.

Also, I still can't believe my luck that animotus of all people picked my prompt. Eee!

animotus has posted an incredible illustration for my fanfiction Shadows Taller Than Our Soul over here. I'm completely speechless. This is still the story that I'm most proud of and that's dearest to my heart, and to see it inspired something this pretty...wow.
