WTF???????????
From here ... and please tell me they're kidding. It's a troll, right? RIGHT?
By Mystech: Yeah yeah and he and his friends run around calling people "Mud bloods" which, if I recall correctly, is very close to a slur actually used by American white supremacists.
Does Harry Potter express raciest views? Of course. Should J.K. Rowling be frowned upon for this? I don't think so. She's British, she just can't help it. . . its bred into them. She probably doesn't even know she's doing it, and it's not as if she's actually making any derogatory statements against any actual race, so really in the end who cares?
By android: There's nothing wrong, illegal, or unscientific about racial awareness and preferring your own kind. Bigotry I'm not so fond of, but only undermen equate the two.
by SCrow:Well, to go back to the original point about Harry Potter being a racist, the book certainly has some elements that could definatly be interpreted as Nazi related symbols. For example, Snape's initials are S.S. which relates to the Schutzstaffel from the holocaust. Another S.S. related point is Harry's scar, which looks alot like the tag in which the S.S. had on their uniform. I also agree with the original point of this arguement, that being the connection between the half-blood and pure-blood to Naziism. I agree it is just a book but there alot more to the book then justthe story.
And THEN they go round drawing comparisons to "Mein Kampf" by Hitler and act all smart-arsey...WTF???
And besides? Don't talk about stuff you don't have a clue about just because you've seen Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List you morons.
I almost feel offended by that rubbish. I live in the country that was ruled by Nazis and caused millions of deaths. Comparing Harry Potter to Mein Kampf is like a slap into my face.

I`m just laughing about this nazi stuff. I`m aware of our past but well it`s not like I`m the quilyt one or like Hitler was the only one thinking like that. It`s just that everybody knows about him and what he did.
Maybe I should read this wank before talking about it *g*

Hmmm yes this is almost as good as Harmionian wank...

Is it possible, though, that these people are reacting to this article? (http://news.scotsman.com/uk.cfm?id=862542004) I have only one HP-exclusive person on my f-list and she posted a link to this about a month or go. I read it and went right back to my hobbits, but perhaps others wanted to discuss it.

Thing is, I really love Harry POtter, I'm a huge fan. But I don't go to forums or websites and prefer to discuss the books and films with my friends who I know are just as "sane" as I am... :o) I write fanfiction, though... every now and then :o)
But yeah, I think there is definitely less wank in the LOTR fandom. Maybe because the people are older and there is no such character as Hermionethat all 13 year old girls can identify with and go all upset when the hero chooses Ginny over her :o)

And from the little I have ventured into the HP fandom, I was just frightened out of my mind by the ship wars. Eeeek. I have my preferences too, but. Not like that :D
Hey! Goblet of Fire is coming out next month, eeee!!

And the fact Harry's scar is meant to be a symbol of the SS is absolute bullsh*t (scuse my French) - the lightning shaped scar is very common in novels - it may be unoriginal, but it's certainly not a symbol of Nazi sympathy.

How dare they say something like that about the British??
If anything, we're the complete opposite, being ridiculously over the top when it comes to political correctness. Gah!!

*deadpan* ...seriously? Oh yes, I'm absolutely sure that that is what JKR had in mind when thinking up a name for Snape. Oh yes. No doubt in my mind. [/SARCASM] And the thing about Harry's scar is just funny.
RE what
How dare they say something like that about the British??"
It's total irony, isn't it? A discussion condemning HP for its racial undertones, then turning around and doing the exact same thing by attacking a group of people in such a prejudiced way. They can't even see their own hypocracy.
And I have to address this Harmonian wank, because being one myself, I get insulted when people mock us so. I know, there IS a lot of wank out there, and even I get fed up with a lot of it, but we deserve a break every now and then. What I think the big point missed about that OTP isn't the fact that we're oblivious to R/Hr, but the fact that we don't understand R/Hr. I know I personally just don't get it. At all. I see it! It's right there in front of me! But I have no idea why the fates (or, well, JKR) would want those two to get together. *shrug* If someone could explain it, I'd be very willing to listen. I've yet to understand why. =)
Had to get that out. What's the point of it all if you don't stick up for the things you love, right?

You know there is nothing wrong with shipping Hr/H but some of the fans make such a fuss about it I'm glad I never really stepped into that fandom...and I read a very good essay once why H/Hr makes no sense. It basically said that Ron and Hermione are two extremes, and he isn't happy with either of them if he's alone.
In POA, when Harry has a fight with Hermione about the broom and spends all his time with Ron, it is fun yes but he gets nothing DONE. In GOF when he's jealous of Ron he spends more time with Hermione, and isn't happy either. The thing is, what the author said, that Ron & Hermione are there to take care of him, both in their ways. Of course she could take care of them either as his gf, but as someone pointed out, they are way too parent-like, both of them. They even represent Harry's parents socially, the Muggle-born, bright witch and the pure-blood.
And how can you not see R/H? :o) I mean, the teasing, the mocking... it's JUST the same as with Lily and James, really. The same as Harry spending his vacation at the Weasley's is basically the same as with Sirius Black... :O)
