WTF???????????
From here ... and please tell me they're kidding. It's a troll, right? RIGHT?

By Mystech: Yeah yeah and he and his friends run around calling people "Mud bloods" which, if I recall correctly, is very close to a slur actually used by American white supremacists.

Does Harry Potter express raciest views? Of course. Should J.K. Rowling be frowned upon for this? I don't think so. She's British, she just can't help it. . . its bred into them. She probably doesn't even know she's doing it, and it's not as if she's actually making any derogatory statements against any actual race, so really in the end who cares?

By android: There's nothing wrong, illegal, or unscientific about racial awareness and preferring your own kind. Bigotry I'm not so fond of, but only undermen equate the two.

by SCrow:Well, to go back to the original point about Harry Potter being a racist, the book certainly has some elements that could definatly be interpreted as Nazi related symbols. For example, Snape's initials are S.S. which relates to the Schutzstaffel from the holocaust. Another S.S. related point is Harry's scar, which looks alot like the tag in which the S.S. had on their uniform. I also agree with the original point of this arguement, that being the connection between the half-blood and pure-blood to Naziism. I agree it is just a book but there alot more to the book then justthe story.

And THEN they go round drawing comparisons to "Mein Kampf" by Hitler and act all smart-arsey...WTF???

And besides? Don't talk about stuff you don't have a clue about just because you've seen Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List you morons.

I almost feel offended by that rubbish. I live in the country that was ruled by Nazis and caused millions of deaths. Comparing Harry Potter to Mein Kampf is like a slap into my face.

What I think the big point missed about that OTP isn't the fact that we're oblivious to R/Hr, but the fact that we don't understand R/Hr. I know I personally just don't get it. At all. I see it! It's right there in front of me! But I have no idea why the fates (or, well, JKR) would want those two to get together. *shrug* If someone could explain it, I'd be very willing to listen. I've yet to understand why. =)

You know there is nothing wrong with shipping Hr/H but some of the fans make such a fuss about it I'm glad I never really stepped into that fandom...and I read a very good essay once why H/Hr makes no sense. It basically said that Ron and Hermione are two extremes, and he isn't happy with either of them if he's alone.

In POA, when Harry has a fight with Hermione about the broom and spends all his time with Ron, it is fun yes but he gets nothing DONE. In GOF when he's jealous of Ron he spends more time with Hermione, and isn't happy either. The thing is, what the author said, that Ron & Hermione are there to take care of him, both in their ways. Of course she could take care of them either as his gf, but as someone pointed out, they are way too parent-like, both of them. They even represent Harry's parents socially, the Muggle-born, bright witch and the pure-blood.

And how can you not see R/H? :o) I mean, the teasing, the mocking... it's JUST the same as with Lily and James, really. The same as Harry spending his vacation at the Weasley's is basically the same as with Sirius Black... :O)

I can see that point about why Harry needs Ron AND Hermione in his life. If he didn't need them both, they would've have stayed in his life for so long. And after all, I'm not one of those crazy shippers who wants Ron to die so Hermione can go running into Harry's arms. But H/Hr makes sense to me. Of all the girls at Hogwarts, she makes the most sense to me as a match for Harry (except maybe Luna... I like hers and Harry's relationship...), and likewise, I can't think of anyone else who Hermione would need but Harry. I don't support R/Hr only for the fact that I just don't see what the big deal is. I don't root for them. There's nothing that makes me want to root for them. =\

Actually I don't bloody care for none of the ships but that is because I'm just not a shipper...to me it's about the characters and characters only, and the plot and the whole story...I couldn't care less much about who hooks up with whom and I can't see what the big deal is about. Reducing the books to just H/Hr (Or R/H or whatever) as some people do just seems silly to me...so that's why I couldn't for my life feel about offended about comments JK Rowling makes, or be disappointed about ships or whatever. I just don't care. Just as much as I don't care about Charlie and Claire as a couple. *shrugs*

Oy I hope I wasn't offensive, if I was I didn't mean it like that .o)

"to me it's about the characters and characters only, and the plot and the whole story...I couldn't care less much about who hooks up with whom and I can't see what the big deal is about."

I completely understand that, but there's a social aspect to every character. Human beings are social creatures and you have to have an appreciation for how someone acts around others to understand their own character as well. For instance, Sawyer is interesting because of his very lack of social intimacy. He doesn't know to repent for his sins or show that he actually cares. Sure, I ship him with people, but it's what happens when he's in that social situation that's interesting. So I don't think you can completely exclude relationships from a character's own complexity even if character itself is what attracts you.

In the case of H/Hr (and C/C), I can see in terms of their individual characters why they would make sense together. Harry needs someone dependable, Charlie needs someone to be his reason for staying clean. Hermione also needs someone dependable, and Claire would've lost her head long ago if she didn't have Charlie to help her out and be do dedicated. It's my own perspective, I know, but it certainly isn't just about "OMG THEY ARE SO IN LOVE!!!11". Relationships would be boring it they weren't made up of interesting people.

And likewise, I'm sorry if that was a bit defensive, but hopefully you can understand where I'm coming from.
