Out Of Curiousity: 'Verses
Recently I've been thinking about creating 'verses in fanfiction. You know, when authors create their completely own verse in fanfics and a lot of the times add "Belongs to Verse XY" to their fanfics.

As a writer, I can definitely see why it's tempting. Creating and exploring your own world within a fictional world, expanding your ideas and
going back to the characters you've taken a lot of time to shape and grow and...yes, it's tempting.

The reason why I've never done it is that, while I tend to build small 'verses for each fic but not a BIG one that lots of fics are set in, I never thought people were actually that interested into 'verses. Especially when you're not a well-known author I've always had a feeling that readers wouldn't go through the hassle of getting to know yet another 'verse.

Just out of curiousity, I've added the poll beneath. Care to fill it out? I would really like to find out just how popular 'verses really are. Out of curiousity. I won't suddenly start writing 'verses, honest. Except maybe those I'd already had in mind.

To clarify what I mean with 'verse; I guess my easiest way of defining them would be "Things That Definitely Never Were & Never Will Be Canon"? I know that every fic is technically set in a 'verse of its own, but some 'verses are more obvious and prominent than others, tend to play a big role in the plot, and I'm talking about these. But on that, too, I'd like to hear your ideas. What defines a 'verse? Also, how much can a 'verse be altered from canon and still be a fanfic you'd like to read?

First: a poll.

[Poll #1198758]

I guess these thoughts might not be making much sense to anyone but me. :D
