I wish we would actually celebrate this day with confetti and parades. Because we should. We really, really should.

I was really moved during my visit to Berlin last month - standing with one foot in "east" Berlin and the other in "west" Berlin affected me deeply. I think the events of 20 years ago should serve as a reminder that all seemingly unsolvable problems can be solved.

Warum fällt bei uns eigentlich immer ALLES auf den 9.11.?

Macht's ja in Geschichtsprüfungen leichter ("Wissen Sie das genaue Datum?" "Um... 9.11.?!" Hat einfach die höchste Trefferquote) aber an solchen Tagen ist es schon schade.

I was 9 and I didn't understand everything that was going on in detail. But I lived outside of Washington DC and the cold war was just taken as a fact of life - the idea that it could be ending was amazing. Even a 9-year-old far away could pick up on that. *smile* Thanks for sharing the footage; it was great to watch as an adult.

I'd happily celebrate this, even though to me it was a period, not a day. But hey, it so deserves celebration! :)
