Memories of my Childhood

Sometimes, I just want to hug youtube tight and never let it go again...

Actually, is there anybody on my flist who used to watch the dubbed German version as well when they were kids? Because - I distinctively remember Joey calling "Fury!" during the intro and then the horse coming galloping down the slope, but I'm about 90% sure that we did not have that cheesy voice-over. Or maybe they just left it out in the later episodes?

That being said, I just had goosebumps watching that intro again after 20 years. So weird how much I remember the opening scenes given I was 5 or 6 at the time I watched it. I'd always wished they'd put it on a rerun over here...yay youtube. *puts dvds on her wishlist*

Yes, I did watch it. Or at least most of it.

Am at work and can't listen to that right now, but I don't remember a voiceover either. Only Joey and his "Fury! Fury! Na, Fury, wie wäre es mit einem kleinen Ausritt? Hast du Lust?" and then this bit of music and then the episode started. But maybe the voiceover was so boring that I forgot?

I think my cousin might have the DVDs. I should ask her. She was really obsessed.

Yeah, that's what I recall as well. But the voiceover here is all "Out in the West, where men are still men..." (or something along those lines). And then it goes on and on and on...

Oh, I was really obsessed as well :D

I know I watched the first bunch of episodes several times with her, but when the "new" episodes came out, I prefered playing football with the guys and she was miffed at me and watched on her own. So clearly I was not obsessed back then. At least not more than I was football obsessed.

I can't remember something about "real men", though.

I can imagine they left that out, though.

Well, I guess I was a bit younger than you so I just remained glued to the TV screen :D

I suppose they did. Also I just read that apparently they left out an episode because it contained a US military "Werbefilm"...

Also, Fury should meet Dief:

Hehe. I guess now I would rather stay glued to the tv than play football, too.

Interesting. But yeah, I can see why they would do that.

Everyone should meet Dief. :D

I will have to watch that vid at home, though.

I have this weird urge to rewrite Fury containing RPS now, though O.o HALP.

If you watch this at home...this has a wee bit of the intro that I remember. Hm.

Maybe they changed it, because I remember Joey being older than he was in the first season.

(Excuse my rambling. It's just, I've been wondering for nearly twenty years whatever happened to Fury. I was ecstatic when I saw the DVDs released but you know...I then figured that watching it now might ruin my childhood memories. Going through the youtube vids now I think that I would still love it a lot. I mean, I squeed when I saw that shot of Fury and Joey...)

What?!? How?!? No, don't explain. You scare me sometimes.

Maybe they changed it, because I remember Joey being older than he was in the first season.

So you probably saw the "new" episodes first? When we watched it the first time, there weren't all episodes out in Germany and not just the war/military one. I know at some summer break they promoted "new" ones, but that was when I had already picked up football, so I only saw those when it rained or in later re-runs when I wasn't outside. Joe was older there.

Yeah, watching kid shows on DVDs later is always a dangerous territory. But I remember my Dad still enjoying it when he watched with us, so I guess it would not ruin my childhood experiance either. Besides, I was not obsessed. ;)

What?!? How?!?

NOTHING BAD! Just, in the pilot that I just watched Joey is an orphan constantly getting himself into trouble and then Jim offers him to live at the ranch and...

I think I've seen them all, really, but I guess that because I was so little the ones they aired last where those that stuck.

Yeah, watching kid shows on DVDs later is always a dangerous territory.

*nods* It best works when you never stop watching them in the first place :D

You mean SPN AU RPS (well, is there any that is not AU?)? Am I missing something? I think I lost you somewhere.

That might also be. Also, also, I just checked IMDB and apparently that one kid was Joey only for 13 episodes. Sadly there is no other listed, so maybe that is a mistake. This confuses me. Since it has been so long, I can't remember if there were two kids. I kind of want to rewatch now. ;p

*nods* It best works when you never stop watching them in the first place :D

But at one point you are watching too many shows and can never watch anything new again. ;p

Yeaaaaaah...may have been SPN RPS AU ;) Not to worry. I get RPS plotbunnies all the time but I never write them :)

That might also be. Also, also, I just checked IMDB and apparently that one kid was Joey only for 13 episodes. Sadly there is no other listed, so maybe that is a mistake.

Yeah, I checked that too and it confused me. Though if "Fury" only ran for 5 seasons it would explain why Joey always struck me as being much older...

But at one point you are watching too many shows and can never watch anything new again. ;p

Unless I drop the bad ones :P

Also...you might laugh at me, but out of curioustiy I watched the opening titles of "Black Beauty" because it was in the link list and... I started cryng a bit because I suddenly remembered that I loved this show when I was younger. And I had forgotten about that but as soon as I heard the theme I just...dunno...got so setimental my eyes watered. It just...was kind of like an epiphany. I dunno. I'm discovering pieces of my childhood, it appears.

See? I didn't get the SPN part and was all WTF!?! thinking you wanted to use those guys for RPS. And that kind of scared me a bit.

Unless I drop the bad ones :P

But isn't that pretty much what we are doing now? Replacing older shows what we lose interest in with new ones in the hopes that they are better and then drop those again for yet newer ones when we realize they aren't?

Awww. I am not laughing at you. Though I don't remember "Black Beauty" as well as "Fury" and it would probably not bring tears to my eyes, I at least know the feeling. I just recently rewatched "Schlupp vom Grünen Stern" and was equally emotional.

HOLY CRAP NO....O_O NOT THE FURY GUYS. Uhm.

I just recently rewatched "Schlupp vom Grünen Stern" and was equally emotional.

That sounds like Augsburger Puppenkiste? I never was that a big fan of them because the dolls and their wooden expressions scared me :)

[identity profile] roadrunner1896.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you didn't mention it and my brain didn't exactly follow, so I was wondering.

Yes, that is Augsburger Puppenkiste. I loved those. And Schlupp was especially cute.

It was my first sci-fi love. I ♥ robots. :D

Ha!

Haha.

Dief would totally flirt with the ladies while Fury would have to work on the field. *gg*

And I also watched that other vid you posted up there and I can't remember that recap, though maybe it was on in the first few eps to catch people up?

[identity profile] gehirnstuerm.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think we had the voice-over either. Just the "Fuuuuury!" bit. Aw ♥ Where's my "Fury" book?
ext_16275: (Default)

[identity profile] legoline.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly. And the Mustangs...

There is a book? O_O

[identity profile] gehirnstuerm.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeeeeees! It's by Albert G. Miller. I have a pretty old copy that belonged to my Mom when she was little ♥

Ooooh! I only had the "Black Stallion" books and a comic of Black Beauty...I think I may have to add it to my amazon wishlist :D Thanks!

Ah, you know that I really love you for posts like this? *melts* Funny thing is, the first thing I associate with summer vacation is "Fury", even after all these years. Part of the "Kinderferienprogramm", it was THE fixture of my childhood. And "Black Beauty", of course. God, I was obsessed with that horse..always dreamed of having one just like that. (And the Black Stallion books are down in the basement and they sure as hell will be moving with me:-) SOme things I don't think I can part with willingly. Not ever.)

Aw, thanks :D I'm just happy I'm not annoying EVERYBODY on my flist then :D

Funny thing is, the first thing I associate with summer vacation is "Fury", even after all these years.

Same here *nods* That and Saltkrokan.

And the Black Stallion books are down in the basement

Oh, I still got those too! And when I move, they'll be coming along :D I'm really tempted to buy both Black Beauty and Fury on DVD now :)
