It's Like Mugging
From F_W:

Lee Goldberg finds the need to express his feelings about fanfiction when he learns about the Organization For Transformative Works.

I didn't even know who he was until I googled him. Turns out he was involved in many of those horrible seaQuest 2032 episodes.

For the record: if I was a published writer, I'd feel honoured if people wrote fanfic about my stories.

Current Mood: amused

I would glee over fanfiction of anything I wrote. And giggle at things people do to my characters and laugh diabolically over 'ship wars. Man, that would be awesome...

Yeah. I would feed them with possible slash ships that never happen :-)

Yes! And then watch as people go "Look! Look! Here, they look into each other's eyes! Theyaresoinlove!"
"Yeah, and Bob picked up Fred's pen for him when he dropped it!"
"And neither of them like broccoli! They are made for each other!"

*giggles* If I EVER write an original fic with two guys, I will make sure none of them likes broccoli. Brilliant :-)

Lee Goldberg is infamous for his opinions about fanfiction. It's hilarious and usually not worth your time. *g*

Well, not that I got really upset about it. Just think it's funny and it kind of does raise and important point, namely how succesful OTW will be, in the end.

People like him are part of the reason the OTW exists, therefore I hope they will be very, very successful. \o/

In fact, as I don't have the time to volunteer for anything, I already donated some money because the tax-exempt or not tax-exempt status doesn't make a difference for us Non-Americans¹. Go me! :D

Yay! I really don't have any money to donate right now, so all I can do is support them mentally :-) I do hope they'll be succesful, it'd be wonderful if fans were actually represented by someone.

By the way, have you seen this? (http://ithiliana.livejournal.com/802676.html)

ER nun wieder. *sigh*

if I was a published writer, I'd feel honoured if people wrote fanfic about my stories.

I'd even say: As a writer, I'd feel honoured if people wrote fanfic about my stories. :)

Ich hatte vorher überhaupt noch nicht von ihm gehört... :-)

I thought that goes without saying :-)

I thought you meant it that way I just wanted to be sure 'published' didn't equal 'getting paid for writing'! *g*

Hee. I love the moral outrage in the comments. "Wah, if someone took my poor characters and sexed them up, I would die." Um, are you sure anybody gives half a crap about any of the books you possibly wrote...in your head? :-p

The REAL big wigs who write ACTUAL shows and books are damn glad for the free publicity and advertising. Which is the reason they tolerate fanstuff in the first place.

Equally for RPF which will give these poor actors and their love ones trauma for years to come. Sure. Well, dear commentors, not everybody has so much time on their hands as you.

That's the beauty of it. *g* No one cares about their characters anyway. They are totally ficless. It's like the father of the fifty year old maiden threatening these confused and totally uninterested twenty-somethings not to ravage his poor helpless daughter or he would would hunt them down and kill them.

Well, the REAL BIG writers don't have to worry that readers will prefer the fic over the original works :-p

*burst out laughing* Sour-grapes-syndrome, huh?

And I by far prefer fanfic to official tie-ins written by professionel - and I use the term lightly here - writers.

What? You mean you don't like the glorious Dark Angel tie-ins? :-)
