Question To The (Fanfic) - Writers...

I've got this plotbunny in my head that I'm really tempted to write - only so far the outline of the plot is more than a little rough, and I haven't yet decided on one or two major things. So here's a question I have for you:

When do you start writing? Do you just - have a basic idea and let it flow and surprise you where it leads you? Or do you plan out most of it before you even write down a single word? Do you plan out chapters before you begin a fic? How much detail do you know before you start writing?

I like to plan out most of the plot before I start writing to make sure there aren't any major plotholes. Also if I just start to write I tend to get lost in the middle of the story and don't know where to take it. But now I'm really tempted, as I said...

Well.......it all completely depends. Some stories I literally write straight from scratch. I just open up word and start typing and it just flows, really ewasily.

Othes, like my Fleet AU or my SPN book fic are planned and I have sorted out what will happen in each chapter. That said, I still randomly write extracts from bits and pieces all over the story, when they come to me.

I find that with most of my stories, I actually plan them at night, just before falling asleep. This may seem weird, but what I do is go through all the events of the story in my head and memorise them, and then the next day I'll start to write it.

I could go on and on about this but I won't. I love talking about writing :)

Seriously? I do that too! Have been ever since I turned 11 I think :-P

I could go on and on about this but I won't. I love talking about writing :)
