Magic

It’s quiet as they walk around the old haunted house. The door is at the back of the building, and they have to remove branches and undergrowth before they even reach the porch. The windows are sealed with planks, the wooden veranda creaks under their steps. In the distance they can hear an owl hoot as they position themselves in front of the door.

“I’ll open it.” Dean informs his brother. Sam opens his mouth to reply, but Dean silences him with a wave of his hand. “I can.”

“Dean...”

“No, really. Wait a second.”

Dean reaches into his bag, and pulls out a long stick wrapped in newspapers. He unwraps it and a smile lightens up his face as his eyes wander over his Harry Potter wand replica.

“Dean...” Sam tries again.

“Wait...” Dean cuts in and clears his throat. Then he taps the door handle with the wand.
“Alohomora!” he says.

His fingers reach for the handle and the door snaps open. Dean glances over to Sam, pride all over his face, “Told you I could do it.”

Sam smiles, bites his lip and decides not to tell his brother the door wasn’t locked in the first place.
