I don't know about you but I'm absolutely in love with fanart. And I'm not talking about Digital Art/Blends/Wallpaper here (though making them is lots of fun and not as easy as it looks, so my respect to all you photoshop'ers out there) but about hand-drawn/painted traditional art. Over the past two years or so I've come across the works some of the most talented artists I've ever seen, each with their own unique style, and which definitely deserve a little pimping.
So this is what I'm going to do. I will make a list here of my favourite fanartists, both LOTR and Harry Potter fandom, and this list shall be updated whenever I find a new artist that I think is worth rec-ing. Good plan? Also, feel free to point me in someone's direction if you think I've forgotten an artist :o)

FANART - HARRY POTTER RELATED
http://www.kristinsstudio.com
Kristin used to do a lot of Harry Potter fanart before OotP was published. She illustrated both fanfiction and canon, and her work strongly reminds me of the good ol' Disney style. Which was the point I reckon ... :o) These days she mainly illustrates Inuyasha (I think), but her works are still great and definitely worth a visit. She also has a LJ over here -
kriscynical
Tealin's Harry Potter Art
She does Harry Potter (canon) illustrations in full Disney style, and her work is just awesome. She also draws for other fandoms like Discworld and *gasp* Master & Commander... and comes up the most hilarious cartoons/sketches on the internet. Her LJ (with frequent artsy posts) can be found here:
twirlynoodle
http://www.artdungeon.net/
Marta's work is something special in fandom. Her illustrations are quite different, less Disney-ish and constantly remind me of the illustrations we had in our text books at school. It's great work, though. Her young Marauders are irresistible. She does both fanon and canon.
www.tinaling.ca
Another one of those great artists who do illustrations comic/manga-wise.
Nico's Harry Potter Drawings
Another artist, another style. Possibly among the most detailed Hary Potter drawings you'll find on the net, awesome!
Accio Brain!
Her style is fabulous, her artwork sometimes funny enough to make you spit coke all over your desk. Amazing!

Jenny's work reminds me of Marta's a little, style-wise. It's unique still, and you definitely should check her website out!
www.sandelwood.net
She mostly paints, but her work is so pretty. Shame she so seldomly does fanart :o) She's got a LJ as well where she posts artwork every now & then :
sandelwood
www.edgeworlds.com
Gotta love her style. I wish I was able to do things like that.

"Crackers" / Linn Standals Gallery
Very unique style, especially the colouring. Also lovely Sirius/Remus fanart. Check it out!
Gold Dust
Very cute art. Not too much there yet but I hope that'll soon change :o)
Seventeen Sickles
Now there's something special for you. To describe her style you simply have to see it... very dark, very individual. But great work.
Scratchy Sketches
Even more simply lovely Harry Potter fanart. I especially like the doodles, very dynamic.
Art By Duckpuppy
Lots of Snape art.
Lizard Junk Dot Net.
Another good example for excellent traditional work. Contains het, gen and slash illustrations.
Every Flavour - Harry Potter Fanart by Glockal
The right place to find tons of illustrations through all the books.
Sherant's Fanart
That portrait of little Harry is probably among the most endearing ones I've ever seen ;o)
http://celestialsodapop.org/
Yes I love it when artists have their very own style and hers just blew me away. I wish I'd be able to do expressive drawings/paintings like that.
Fiendling's Art
A long time ago I once found an endearing drawing of Harry with a lollipop. Well I've found it again! This work is also absolutely stunning. And Dom fans your hearts may stop beating for a second if you go here ... I know mine did.
Parchment Doodles
Another place with tons of wonderful artwork.
There Is No Why
Both LOTR and HP fanart. I almost like her LOTR fanart better, though :O)
Harry Potter & The Planetarium
Both traditional and digital art. I adore the black&white pieces, there's just something intense about them.
Chiro Room (rec'd by
lisande) . This is absolutely beautiful Sirius/Remus art and I'm completely in love with it.
FANART - LORD OF THE RINGS RELATED
NOT REALLY FANART BUT...
http://www.john-howe.com
Alan Lee's work
Need I say more?
NOW, FOR THE REST:
http://www.goldseven.de
Yup, Jenny also does LOTR fanart ... check it out!
www.sandelwood.net
Another artist working for both fandoms...definitely stop by here. She's got the most touching illustration of Gandalf carrying ill Merry to the Houses Of Healing.
mandibrandybuck
She only posts in her LJ, her drawings/illustrations (mostly hobbits) are beyond cute.
mucun
Her LJ is artwork only, and her illustrations definitely are something special in fandom. Her artwork, mostly hobbits, is (being a Japanese girl - what a cliché ;o) ) done in full Manga style. Now, I usually don't like that Manga style too much, but these illustrations are the infamous exception to the rule. They are pretty, adorable, cute, touching and lovely in all sorts of ways. Amazing.
Lindsey Henniger's Drawings
...which look so real I first thought she'd just black & white'nd captures from the film...
Illustrations by Rob Alexander
Stunning work.
Illustrations by Anke Katrin Eissmann
You can tell her work by her style, it's very unique. I like her work because it's very book-wise and you'll find the characters don't look at all like they do in the movies, which is great...
Illustrations by Ebe Kastein
Very, very special. Her characters are clearly movie-verse though the paintings are not. The technique is awesome, her work beautiful, featuring one of the the cutest portraits of Pippin I've ever come across. Be warned though: some of her works are not exactly suitable for children if you see what I mean... :o)
Kristina's Gallery, (
pipwise). I was lucky enough to see the original mounted version of the Merry & Pippin drawing at the Fellowship Festival before she gave it to Billy, and it was just wonderful...
Fanart by Trilliah
She does mostly Frodo/Sam slash drawings but her style is adorable (and so are quite a few of her drawings), and very unique...to me the perfect mixture of comic and real life style. She also keeps a LJ here:
trilliah.
Gold Dust
Still very cute art ;o)
There Is No Why
Great work. Very impressive imaginery.
Joseph M. Olonia
Elfwood gallery. Features some stunning LOTR related landscape paintings.
Billy Mosig
Elfwood gallery. You'll find the most amazing drawing of Gondolin there, and it's just a single brilliant piece of art among many.
Catherine van Mark
Elfwood gallery. If only for her "Welcome to Middle-earth" drawing.
Stephanie Pui-Mun Law
Elfwood gallery. Check out "A Memory of Lothlorien". How someone can do that with water colours is beyond me.
