(no subject)

I still randomly squee. This morning I squeed at my signed drawing of Pippin. And kept grinning like a lunatic all day long.

To translate my favourite lame German phrase: I'm beaming just like a nuclear power station.

Forgot to tell: As I had still 15 pounds left that I didn't want to take home with me I went bookshopping at the airport. The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis and The Orange Girl by Jostein Gaarder are now within my posession. Just love Jostein Gaarder. *bounce*

Gaarder, eh? What's your favourtie book then?

By him? Vita Brevis and The Solitaire Game... I wasn't too fond of The Ringmaster's Daughter, it reminded me too much of Homo faber by Max Frisch. So I'm rather curious what The Orange Girl will be like...

Those are my favourites too! :)

And The Christmas Mystery (or whatever the English title may be) is really good. And you should read Maya too - it's a bit Sophie's World-ish, except there are no annoying philosophy lectures and it has a very good storyline/plot. I recommend that one!

Oh, really???? How cool!!!

Oh you mean Through A Mirror, Darkly or whatever it's called? I really loved that one as well... and I keep meaning to read Maya...

See the philosophy lectures were exactly what bothered me about Sophie's World... it was just too much somehow...

[identity profile] fluttering-by.livejournal.com 2005-08-31 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that's another one. He wrote one about a girl dying with cancer or something, she meets an angel - that's Through A Mirror etc (I only know the Norwegian title), but the other is, well, it's supposed to be a children's book, but Gaarder writes for everybody, it just depends on the age of the reader how much is put into the book, how much intertextuality and subtext they put into it. It's about a boy (and his parents) who buys a christmas calendar, and then every time he opens for a new day, he gets a little bit of a story about a girl named Elisabeth... It's another one of those story-within-the-story Gaarder's so fond of.

I think the story itself was pretty crappy too actually... And Sophie really got on my nerves after a while.

Hmmmmm no I haven't read that one... must look out for it!

Well I really liked the first half of the book, then it got boring :o)

[identity profile] fluttering-by.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah - the party was stupid, and Sophie's friend? Pfft.

[identity profile] legoline.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
And like I said, the philosophy lectures were too much - who the hell is supposed to remember all this?

[identity profile] fluttering-by.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Or even understand it, because lets face it, after a while you spend more energy trying to remember all of them and keeping them from each other than you do on the actual storyline.

[identity profile] legoline.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly! And all this referring back to some philosopher's thesis thing... I mean come on...

[identity profile] fluttering-by.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
It's hard enough already just reading it, but when you got this other plot/s too... Screw it. My book's got a dent in the spine because I threw it at a wall:P

*lol* Did you? Boor book... it's Jostein's fault! :p

[identity profile] fluttering-by.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. I blame him for most things that go bad, actually.

I love your icon! And is there any chance you could post a picture of the signed Pippin picture? Please?

I have to agree with your comment on Sophie's World - I was studying Philosophy at school when I read it, and still it irritated me!
