Have You Seen This Film?
I think my oesophagus is infected again. I'm currently trying to do damage control by taking pain killers, but if it doesn't go away soon I'll have to see the doctor. Bollocks.

QUESTION:
I'm looking for this film that I used to love when I was younger, and I have no clue what it was called. I've searched the internet but without result, so maybe you guys can help me?

It was a western film, set shortly before or in the civil war (I think it was the civil war). The main characters were a family of Mormons. The mother was really religious, preaching "no violence" all day. The father I recall would run races with his carriage every Sunday on his way to church, much to his wife's distress (and he secretly bought a harmonium). One of my favourite scenes I remember was when the family went to a Mormonist church where everybody prayed in silence, and from across the field you could hear the singing and cheering of the Baptist church. The Mormon boy was always wistfully glancing over to the Baptist church. In the end war came to their house... and the rest I can't remember. All I recall is that in the end the "no violence" was so fed up with the goose she hit the poor thing with a broom and felt terribly guilty for it.

Sound familiar to anyone?

Much, much love to [livejournal.com profile] forlornhope42 who found it for me: Friendly Persuasion

D'oh - it kinda rang a bell but I've never watched that movie but read the book; must have been 20 years ago.

Can´t help you there I´m afraid, because about the only Western I´ve ever seen was Young Guns 2 and we only went for Jon Bon Jovi. Not that we ever saw him.
Errm... anyway... can´t you recall the year it came out or maybe some of its actors? That might help and then you could to an Imdb search.

Funny that you mentioned it though, I was just whining at lunch about a movie which I think is from the 80s and which I caught on the telly and loved. Twas a skateboard movie and I think it´s called "Thrashing" but I haven´t found out any more yet.

Oh dear, I grew up watching western films, my father being a John Wayne film and all.

I might have found the film but my memory tricked me - I thought Gregory Peck was in it but it's Gary Cooper. And they're not Mormons but Quakers... *lol*

Hmmmnever heard of your film...

I actually found some clips from it on YourTube! It´s called "Thrashin´" and it´s from 1986, but I saw it much later. But - turns out that Josh Brolin and Sherilyn Fenn are in it! What you learn...

And OOOO, I found my very fave "Hair" clip there too!

Here via friendsoffriends ... I think you mean this one, though I'm not a 100% certain.

Friendly Persuasion (1956) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0049233/)

Hope you get better soon
Skein

PS: Der deutsche Titel fällt mir gerade nicht ein, aber der Film lief etliche Male im deutschen TV.
