Musings On SG-1 and Atlantis.

So, recently I'm under the impression that there are quite some few people who complain about the characters in the Stargate universe, or the way things are going, how characters develop - or not - and frankly, I can't understand that.

To me, both SG shows are fun shows. I watch them for *gasp* entertainment. I've never expected to see great, new, mind blowing shows, pushing the limits of television. I've never expected to see broken characters that are constantly fretting over their lives. I've never expected to see story arcs that make you question religion, politics, or your own existence.

There's other shows for that, which I also watch happily.

But Stargate's become my "relax television". My fun shows. Give me an entertaining plot, a little snark between the characters and I'm happy. I never thought season two of SG:A was worse than season one. I don't think season three is even worse than that.

They're just... oh, I dunno,...fun?

Hey, it's Stargate. I don't expect great television from Stargate. *G*

It's just that I never thought SG-1 was even remotely fun. I was mostly bored and all in all I maybe saw five or six episodes of the show.

SGA OTOH totally rocked my world because I was very much entertained and I liked how the characters only had each other. They were all alone in the universe, it wasn't about military operations all the time but about family and survival. And the most important people? Were the scientists because without them they couldn't survive out there.

Season 2 took all that away. The military was suddenly most important not the scientists, people died and no one cared and they went to Earth and back again all the time so the most important thing about Season 1 - the feeling of isolation and danger through isolation - was gone. I felt as if they turned SGA into SG-1 and I didn't know why because SGA as it was worked fine and had been a fun show.

So...I watched the first nine or ten episodes in season 2 and then just stopped. It just wasn't the same anymore.

See if you don't like SG-1 that's totally fine :-) But I also loved SGA season 2. I didn't see the OMG BIG DIFFERENCE111!!! to season one. True, it is a lot like SG-1 now but so what? As Astri here put it, it's just harmless television fun :-) Nothing more.

So you didn't see Grace Under Pressure?

So we agree: if you never liked SG-1 (like me) the fun in SGA is gone now, too, since SGA is totally like SG-1 now. *G*
