Well, from this great distance, Germany is all just one, far-away, fairly foreign, place.

Definitely. You know the good thing about Europe is that everything's pretty close to London :-p

I think to the limited extent Americans have any notion of "typically German" in our heads it's more Bavarian than anything else. Why I don't know.

Because the Bavarians think they're better than the rest of Germany anyway, and when they migrate to the US they probably only tell of Bavaria...or something. And because it's sooooooooo romantic there (some might say kitschy). Actually I saw on the telly the other day that there's a friggin' Bavarian village somewhere in Oregon. With the painted houses and everything. And then they complain that when German tourists visit they point their finger and giggle. Oh well.

Is there such a thing as a non-ugly miniature?

I have a red doubledecker bus one. It's purdy!

It is possible to tourists to be non-ugly. Sometimes.

I have yet to meet one I think :-p
