[livejournal.com profile] nefantoiel, [livejournal.com profile] rahja and I went to the Original Version Sneak Peak Preview Surprise Film thingy at the UCI in Bochum tonight. They showed The 40 Year Old Virgin ([livejournal.com profile] glorfinniel remember my comment about that? ;o) ) . Anyway... wasn't as bad as I expeced it to be, judging from the title that is. It was okay and actually had some funny lines. And blimey, the bloke who played Dave totally looked like Michael Rosenbaum. No, really.

Best thing was definitely the trailer to Elizabethtown. Was kind of weird to see Orlando Bloom in normal clothes. In a film, I mean. But it looked rather good. And from what I've seen it also looks like they for once actually let Orlando show he can act when he's allowed to...

And I'll admit he's rather pretty in that film.

Also it appears I need to go to a cocktail bar to see the new German trailer of Lost. Hm.

[livejournal.com profile] lyxzen should I bring anything tomorrow? Like snacks or stuff?

And basically just - Billy! :p

Besides... the played my favourite song in the trailer. Or one of my very favourite songs actually. And I just love these slightly weird British films...The Full Monty, Little Voice, Blow Dry, Billy Elliot, SPiVS, Brassed Off...I just love them because they're so... non-Hollywood if you see what I mean. I love them because they tell stories of sometimes slightly insane (but nonetheless loveable) and just plain ordinary people... so I'm really really keen on seeing this one...

Yes, and that they look like people you might run into on the street, not polished and painted pefect Hollywood actors, who, let's face, are more about the looks than the talent in 80% of the cases.

Yes, exactly! To me British films are more... believable....

European films in general, I think. The Norwegian film are usually a bit dull or unbelievable storywise, or just plain idiotic, but at least the actors look like normal people, not dolled up and perfect at all times. I mean, they are normally or a bit more than normally pretty people, but they are not afraid to be 'uglied down', as opposed to prettied up.

Same over here...over the past years I've come to really like German films. Most people my age (or especially younger) don't like them, I guess they're too less perfect-Hollywoodish. Of course not every German film is good. But what I've found with European films in general is that they tend to tell stories from everyday life with everyday people, and I like that muchly.

Me too. The thing with Norway and Norwegian films, is that even if they're making more now than they used to, media still plays them up way too much, overrating them and praising them almost up the skies - and then when you watch them, you are sadly disappointed, because they were not all that good. They were good enough I suppose, but they did lack that little extra the media insisted on them having. So I'm a little reserved... Even before I've seen the movie in question:P

Heh I can see why! :p ... Thing is I was always a tad reserved towards German films, but when I started to watch them I was very surprised and found they were really good! Especially "Goodbye Lenin" is one of the best films I've ever seen... :p

Never heard of it, but then you've probably never heard of the Norwegian films that have popped up these past few years either. Or before that, for that matter.

Probably. Which I think is a shame, really. I wish our cinemas would just not show one or two of the crappy Hollywood films that always seem to make it over here and focus a tad more on European film productions...

Yeah... But it's the face factor again - people want to see something good, and the connect known faces with something good. So, Tom Cruise=good, which means that he will sell better than a 'homemade' film with german actors. Which is just plain sad, since Cruise is overrated and not at all that interesting.

But then again a lot of US actors are. I think it's also a shame that once an actor has grown a little famous over here they trey to make it in Hollywood. Which we know will never happen becauze of zeir Jerman aksents. I'm quite surprised actually Franka Potente's made it into some Hollywood films...

Franka's accent's hardly noticable, but didn't she spend a year or maybe more in New York studying? Because that'd explain something at least.

The need to stop giving roles to Tom Cruise, ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, Evangeline Lilly for fuck's sake - she's only had the Lost part so far, but I bet she's had offers, and I bet she'd suck just as much or even more in any other role, film or tv.

Actually she had a tiny part in my fave Smallville episode ^^ that was pre-Lost :o)

Yes she did I think... but still she's got an accent and I found it quite amusing how they pointed out why in "All I Want/Try 17" ... or even excused it. They just let her kick her car and shout "Scheißauto" ... *lol* Like - watch out! It's a German girl!

Also I was quite surprised to see Heike Makatsch in "Love Actually". Her English accent is quite good, but still they pointed out in the film she was from abroad...because the accent's still there :o)

She did? I know she's had tiny little appearances here and there, but only as extras and such, no speaking roles... Which suits me just find, woman can't act for shit.

Hehe, well, yes, but when you're pissed off, and you start swearing, you usually do so in your native language, unless you're swearing at someone and want to make yourself understood. A car is pretty helpless:P

Heike? Who did she play?

Heh, true! :o) I just have the feeling that only put this scene into the film to make clear she's from abroad :o)

Heike? She was Mia in Love Actually... the woman who tries to seduce Alan Rickman...

No one will ever give Evangeline Lilly a role because of her talent, she's doomed to be eye candy and perv material forever.

And ah, that's what I thought! But you're right, the accent was hardly there - she almots had me fooled:)
