[mood| nostalgic]

When the seas and mountains fall
And we come to end of days
In the dark I hear a call
Calling me there
I will go there
And back again

*sobs*

I WANT MIDDLE-EARTH BACK, DAMMIT!!!

And I've adpated Billy's way of pronouncing 'Pippin' - which is actually quite close to what I usually pronounce the 'i' in German O_O

Haven't done that I'm afraid. but words like 'dreams' and 'thirty' are adapted.

mind you, I do spend most of my time attempting german instead.

I'm sorry I couldn't be any help with it! (English tenses are bloody annoying aren't they?)

Very *nods* It's just too much to learn and the whole Present Perfect thing is driving me nuts! And as cherry on top. Mr Webb will of course also be asking about 'special Uses' you know? *sigh*

Eeek! Even I haven't been taught them!

However, I have full confidence in you. You speak English brilliantly, and you've been revising for a long time. I wish you luck, but I'm sure you'll do brilliantly without it :)

One Evil Muffin[identity profile] legoline.livejournal.com on February 6th, 2005 10:11 pm (UTC)
Haha not so sure about that! And I just feel I should have revised MORE! I'm so lazy!

Okay now look, this is what I have to remember:

Present Perfect Simple:
focus on completition
focus on event/action rather than duration
repeated action (number of times)
permanent or long-lasting situations
effect&completition
past events with indefinite time adverb

Present Perfect Progressive:
focus on non-completition
focus on duration (action possibly completed)
repeated actions (focus on uninterrupted activity)
change/development (focus on continuation)
effect&duration

Yeah. That could as well be Chinese ... O_O

I'm afraid Ihave to agree with you there. I don't even know what over half of that means :)

But I meant what I sai, I really did.

:o) *hugs*

But... the whole Present Perfect... it's only used when an action from the past is leading up to the present or is connected to it somehow, right?

I'm going to be honest here and jsut say that I don't know. I always get confused with perfect tenses. I'm sorry I can't be more help!

One Evil Muffin[identity profile] legoline.livejournal.com on February 6th, 2005 10:21 pm (UTC)
Nonono it's perfectly fine! You know more about German grammar than I do! :o) It's just that in German, we actually only use the Past Tense in written form...and the Perfect tenses when telling something, it's more colloquial and I'm so used to it that I tend to write everything in Perfect Tense in English, too ... O_o
