Oi, Oscar Nominations!

1. Leo being nominated for Best Male Performance? About high time...whether you like that guy or not, he's a kick-ass actor...

2. Kate Winslet is nominated for Best Female Performance! Considering the fact that I'm a huge fan of her and thought she already deserved the Oscar for Titanic I really have my fingers crossed she'll get the award this year. And her performance in ESOTSM was just...awesome.

3. Natalie Portman also nominated? She's getting quite succesful, eh?

4. I'm so glad to see that Finding Neverland has been nominated a couple of times... :o)

5. 'Downfall' has been nominated Best Foreign Movie! Personally, I haven't seen it and I don't want to. It's nice to see it's been nominated though I don't think it'll win as Nowhere In Africa already did two years ago, and we won't give nasty Germans two Oscars in course of two years, will we ... ? :o)


Apart from that - weird to go through the nominations list without LOTR or PJ nominated somewhere...

You should. It's *really* great.
I never was much of a fan of German movies either, but if I look back at the last months, *those* (Sommersturm, Untergang, Napola) were the few movies I really loved - and *not* the US-Blockbuster stuff which almost every time leaves you bitching about crappy scripts afterwards *g*

It's not that I don't think it's great but I've seen so many documentaries, I just don't know whether I could bear the whole horror you know? Partly why I haven't seen Saving Private Ryan either...it's just too much, I'm too sensitive for it *lol*

Saving Private Ryan is a completely different Film - and one that taps into the trap of over-emotionalizing everything - which gives it less impact in the long run.

And Untergang is not like the documentaries on tv.. (well only, if you seen one about the last days ; ) Actually I found this movie to be an interesting study on group dynamics and fear. Aren't you the *angst* junkie? This should be a feast for you *g*

You know I saw that scene on TV where ... is it Goebbels or Göring? I can't remember (a shame really, I had History-LK at school) ... anyway, where he poisons his children...and scene was so cruel because I KNEW that it was real somehow I couldn't stop thinking about it for hours...

Ok, you´re right. I´ve gone a bit off him cause he got so goddamn arrogant, but it WAS only a question of time before he´d get nominated. Good chance he´ll win too.

Well, TeH Man himself admitted to having let the Titanic success go to his head. Watched an interview where he said that for a while he really though his acting had changed the world, so I mean, come ON! Heh...

Leo is nominated? Great! I've just seen Aviator and he is really really good at it! He would have deserved a few oscars already I think.
And Natalie Portman deserves it too. Kinda expected that because she was so so good and different in Closer.

Hm, what's Downfall? Must I know that one?

And Kate Winslet is also cool, like her a lot. so only good news so far :)

Well I like ALL those nominations (haven't seen Finding Neverland or Closer, & the only foreign films i've seen are japanese horrors & 'hero' last year...very pretty film). Leo is an amazing actor & Kate was incredible in ESotSM. I hope they are lucky this year!!
