but we usually say 'holds back tears' or something...
Hm thing is I used that expression just a sentence before that ... *ponders* ... I wanted to say something along 'The tears that he had been holding back before that now flowed like a river but he did not make an effort anymore to .... keep them back?' Could I say 'Keep them back?'
