The Hobbit Stays In New Zealand

After days of closed door talks between New Zealand Prime Minister John Key and Warner Bros. executives, the verdict is out today:

THE HOBBIT WILL BE MADE IN NEW ZEALAND.

Mr.John Key has only minutes ago announced at a press conference in the Beehive theaterette that Sir Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films will indeed be filmed in New Zealand.

Apparently the NZ government is funding the film.

Uhm. It almost sounds as if they mean business this time. Could it be? Could it be they're actually making this movie? Do I need to de-dust all my LOTR icons?

Oh, I already read about Armitage when they announced they had cast Martin Freeman as Bilbo. I knew everybody would go crazy over that though frankly, I have no idea who the guy even is. I just know [livejournal.com profile] stabbim and others keep mentioning him.

Well, for a long-term "Spooks" watcher like me, RA has become a fixture on my British radar. And BBC's "Robin Hood" was made almost tolerable by his black-leathered input. I really, really like him. A lot.

Ah, that explains it. I've only seen "Spooks" 1x01 so far. I'm happy for everybody else though :-) I get Martin, you get Richard.
