Art Post: Watson

Trying out my new fine coloured pencils. Decided that since Holmes got his portrait it was about high time Watson did, too. Sadly the scan scrwed up the colours a bit and made the pencil strokes look harder than they actually are. Tried to fix it a bit with Photoshop, but...anyway. My new coloured pencils are awesome. I like them a lot.

Wow, that is awesome.

Is it easier for you to draw with "real" pencils instead of the tablet thingie? Or did you secretly practise so much? Either way, it looks like you really improved a lot, which is great. :D

Uhm, both I think. It's much easier to sketch with a real pencil but I've also been studying anatomy and some drawing books. I just didn't post those sketches. (I posted some over here, though. (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=178505)) But, for example, I approached Watson's facve completely from how I usually do it for this piece :-) So...combinatioon of both, I guess? ;-)

By the way, this is a life drawing from this morning--my computer mouse.

I think the anatomy studies really paid off. Though I am not sure if one could/should compare those different drawings, but it looks much better and physically correct than the Quinn picture to me. Which already looked quite good to me.

But I have no background and can just say "like" "don't like" really, so what do I know.

Hee, thanks. But I think so too. I broke the Watson portrait down into basic shapes/center/eye line etc. first before I added colour and details which I guess helped.

No, the mouse actually looks like that. It was so shiny I had to buy it :) I like pretty things.

Because apples rot easily and also I think my Microsoft computer would get upset :P

No. They don't. It's why they are so often in the fruit bowls in tv shows, which makes me very happy. They do stay shiny for a week sometimes even two. :D

And you can eat it after a few days. Once you have drawn it. ;p

My Microsoft computer loves apples. At least as long as I don't try to put any on his harddrive, which I don't, cause I like eating them so much. :D
