According to imdb.com Nicole Kidman was casted for Mrs Coulter in The GoldenCompass. I'm sure I'm the last to notice but what do you think of that choice? And the new James Bond dude will play Lord Asriel...I think that really fits at least.

it might not be the obvious choice, but I think Nicole will do a good job playing Mrs Coulter. I think she's very adaptable and completely capable of bringing the right qualities to the role. I can't wait for this film!

Nicole Kidman was the obvious choice for the role but I can't believe they cast Daniel Craig for Lord Asriel. He's supposed to be a Gentleman. A Gentleman who cares about nothing but his personal crusade (and Mrs Coulter) but a Gentleman nonetheless. I just can't imagine this guy in that role.
imo the perfect Lord Asriel would have been Jason Isaacs.

I think she might be OK, though I had my questions about her at first. She's a good actress.
I'm really pleased about Daniel Craig, though. Even though I think he was wrong for Bond, he's got the perfect face for the Asrael role, and he can pull off the cold contempt thing like no one else.

Well given that I'm biased towards Nicole and I haven't read the His Dark Materials books my opinion might not be worth that much, but a friend of mine has read them all and in fact is doing a research project on it right now, and she thinks Nicole is perfect for the role. I, of course, will be seeing it nonetheless.
