To be honest, the novel hurt me far, far more than the film. Maybe because it's a short story and the plot's more compressed. It's still a beautiful film and I do love it. I like the silence of it.
The only things that mildly annoyed me was Heath's accent because I barely understood him. And was Jake's moustache really neccessary to show he'd grown? He looked like he'd just jumped off Smokey & The Bandit.
Other than that - I had no idea Heath Ledger is such a hell of an actor. Or Jake Gyllenhaal. Or Michelle Williams. I was mightily impressed. Wow.
I can't help but feel that Jack was a little off character - the whole Mexico thing, that doesn't happen in the book, does it?
( QUESTION ABOUT ENDING - help help help (And yes, that's SPOILERY! )
