But actually I've got something halfway sensible to say as well. I've been reading some very good fanfiction lately but there's one thing that bothers me majorly about it and I've come across this quite a few times in other stories as well so I just thought it'd be time for a rant.
In my opinion, it's okay to write fanfiction about REAL persons (as in celebs) because heck, if you want to become succesful and famous you just got to take in account that fans will be phantasising and making up stories about you, right? Even if you don't like it - it's some sort of price you have to pay. What DOES bother me is when in fanfictions suddenly family members have 'appearances', too. And I'm not speaking of a short cameo or just a mentioning of someone's name. In these fanfictions, the family members have major 'roles', and are characterised and portrayed with made-up histories and memories. Also the celeb's feelings towards a certain family member are expressed and written about, and somehow this struck me as 'Uh-oh - this goes too far now. This is not right.' Why? Because - as I said it is okay to write about celebs since it's something they have to expect. Even slash is okay to a certain extent as long as it takes place among celebs and not let's say - a celeb and a non-famous friend of him. Because as soon as you write about the family and other friends as well, it interfers with their private life, and I mean their REAL LIFE private life. You then start to write about people you know even less than the celebs (and at least with them you might have an idea of what they're like) or more, not at all, and it's not right to present them like you imagine they COULD be, because these people never asked for fame and probably would be pissed if they found out about how disrespectful some fans are. You got to be careful there. To me, to write about how someone's dealing with the death of someone that REALLY lived is just...wrong. It's using someone's real life pain for some dumb fanfiction and entertainment of others. Just as much as it occurs wrong to me to give family members really major roles in a fanfiction and make them walk and talk as you please, even if it IS harmless, because it's still people that certainly would terribly mind if they knew. And don't even get me started on Woodcest.

Hope that made sense. I'm not good at explaining...
