Additional Notes:This is one of the songs I listened to a lot during my trip to Scotland, and basically from the beginning it screamed "The Eagle" to me. I mean, it's sung in Gaelic and it has that lovely rhythm to it that almost makes it feel like some sort of tribal dance. And because of that overall atmosphere I decided to not pay too much attention to the lyrics and rather try to come up with a narrative of my own.
Given that atmosphere, it was clear for me early on I would try to focus on the Picts, and contrast them to the Romans. Subtext aside The Eagle also features one of my favourite plot devices of all time, which is a person being thrown into a society they always deemed as Barbaric, only to find out these people are not so very different from the person's people. We see precious little of the Picts in the film which is a shame, so I tried to contrast their way of life to that of the Romans--they differ in some aspects, but then again they don't all that much where it counts. The Eagle is a mystical, God-like thing to both worlds, which is why they end up fighting over it. Both a Roman and a Pict kill a young boy. Both worlds give carved toys to their children. In my personal canon, that is the lesson Marcus took from his trip.

The video works really great with the Gaelic song. First time through I hadn't read the translation and it really added to the atmosphere and I loved how the dancing went with the music. Or the other way around. Well, it fitted well is what I want to say.

They're actually doing a show as part of the Zeltfestival Ruhr, and I really want to go, but 40€ are a little out of my league for now. :-/ Will see, maybe I'll have the money to buy the ticket in spring.
